Team and Coaches
The University of Marburg team for the 34th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court consists of Lilian Kano, Kaija Sollich and Emily Wellmann. We are excited about the opportunity to gain practical insight into the work of lawyers by working on a complex case while exploring the field of international commercial arbitration in depth. We are particularly eager to broaden our knowledge and develop a good understanding of its principles and practice. In addition, we look forward to the international exchange and to competing with students from universities around the world. We hope to sharpen our legal reasoning, strengthen our legal writing skills through drafting memoranda, and gain first-hand experience of arbitral proceedings. With commitment, dedication and a strong team spirit, we are preparing for this prestigious competition. These values inspire us not only as individuals but also as a team, enabling us to represent our university with pride and to the best of our abilities. We are eager to broaden our perspectives, grow personally, professionally and develop further together as a team.
The Team
Lilian Kano, 20 years old, is studying law at the University of Marburg and is participating in the 34th Vis Moot Court during her third semester. Her interest in law was sparked by two Erasmus+ projects in Italy, which showed her how complex and, at the same time, interconnected different legal systems are. She finds the diversity of perspectives on law and legal order, and the common approaches to solving international problems, the most fascinating. Her knowledge of six languages helped her to understand international legal issues and opened her mind to different ways of looking at a problem. She is looking forward to familiarizing herself with the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, a subject in which she is particularly interested. She also wishes to improve her English. Lilian is interested both in the law and in science, which is why she worked in a laboratory at an institute for ornithology. This experience reinforced both the importance of international networking and the need for step-by-step analysis for her. By participating in the Vis Moot Court, she hopes to gain experience in team-based, analytical case work and to have an unforgettable time with the team and other international students. In her free time, she enjoys doing sports and learning languages.
Kaija Sollich, 20 years old, is a law student at the University of Marburg and is participating in the 34th Vis Moot Court during her fifth semester. She has long been fascinated by politics, global governance, and international cooperation, particularly by the ways in which actors with differing interests collaborate to achieve development and progress. Already during her school years, she worked as a freelance journalist, gaining valuable experience in research, strategic communication, and precise writing. She aspires to work in an international legal environment, where she can combine these interests. The Vis Moot enables her to deepen her understanding of how legal professionals contribute to the resolution of complex international commercial disputes. It also offers her an excellent opportunity to complement her academic studies with practical experience in international commercial law and arbitration. She looks forward to taking on new challenges together with her team. She is eager to further hone her legal, rhetorical, and interpersonal skills while gaining valuable experience through exchanges with international participants. She also hopes to broaden her perspective through engagement with diverse legal approaches and cultures. In her free time, Kaija enjoys sports, spending time with friends, and playing the piano.
Emily Wellmann, 20 years old, is studying law at the University of Marburg and participates in the 34th Vis Moot Court during her third semester. Her interest in law developed during school and was further strengthened through an internship at the Regional Court of Braunschweig and participation in the Junior Studies Program at the University of Hanover. During these experiences, she gained her first insight into legal work, which sparked her enthusiasm for legal reasoning. What particularly attracts her to the Vis Moot is the combination of legal analysis, teamwork, and oral advocacy. Through her participation in “Jugend debattiert”, where she reached the state finals, she gained experience in responding spontaneously to new arguments and discussing different viewpoints. She is particularly interested in further developing these skills by applying legal issues not only in theory, but also to concrete cases. She views the Vis Moot as an opportunity to further develop her argumentative and rhetorical skills, strengthen her legal English skills, and take on new challenges together with her team. She enjoys exchanging ideas with others, exploring different viewpoints and developing convincing solutions together. In her free time, she enjoys reading and staying active through sports.
