Who is Shadi Ali?

Syrian Economist, 42 years old , MA Economy Tishreen University, MA from  Marburg University with  (ECAR) Programme,  who worked as a consultant for many Syrian companies and as a lecturer in Tishreen University, Lattakia, Syria. I am member of ٍthe Syrian Economic Society.

How would you describe OWLWO Global GmbH in two sentences?

OWLWO Global GmbH is a consultancy, providing a range of targeted services to support and strengthen businesses around the world, including market research, communications, negotiation, facilitation, training, and project management. In order to improve our client’s competitiveness and productivity, we also offer best practice solutions in market analysis and business planning.

What were you doing before you started OWLWO Global GmbH?

I have more than 12 years of experience in international trade. I also worked as a lecturer at the Technical Institute for Business Administration at Tishreen University in Latakia, Syria.

What motivated you to create your own business?

Honestly, there are several motivations, but the main are the two following:

Firstly, finding a job as a Syrian in Germany is not an easy mission, especially now. The German media has been distributing images and stereotypes about lack of qualifications among Syrians, which gives us a very hard time to prove ourselves. Of course, we need to increase our capability and qualification every day as everybody else does, but that should not prevent us from integrating into the German labour market.
The second issue was my desire to be independent, as I tried to create my future depending on my dream and my rhythm of life.

Becoming self-employed is a bold step requiring you to take risks. How did you approach this move?

I like risk and taking responsibility, because it creates a better person and makes you always challenge and develop yourself.

Could you describe the feeling you had the moment you secured your first customer/contract?

I consider my clients are my partners. Their success is mine and my achievements are their profits, so with every contract, I get a friend and a partner to extend my network.

How has your journey been afterwards? What have you learned so far?

I am still completing the first steps, which is why I wish to answer this question after some time has passed, because my dream is big and I am working on it.

Have you hit any big obstacles? How did you deal with them?

My biggest obstacle is the prejudgment ,and I hope that I can help bridge the gap between cultures, especially since my clients have different cultural backgrounds.

Where do you see OWLWO Global GmbH going in the next years?

I follow my dream and I do my best to achieve it. It could be a difficult mission especially with the current world economic and political situation, but my motivation is high and the determination is big and sure I am optimistic.

Is there anyone whom you would like to send a message/thank?

Sure, I will be always grateful to the ECAR programme for the opportunity that has been given to me to see the world from a different perspective and a different angle.
