International Relations

The field of International Relations offers a wide range of topics in both research and teaching. Central research focuses include the foreign policies of Western states, the political conditions of global economic processes, the economic foundations of (security) political decisions in international comparisons, military missions abroad, and European integration. Regional focuses are on Germany and the European Union, the United States, the Asian region—especially Japan and China—and sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on the Horn of Africa.

These topics are regularly covered in teaching as well. During the summer semester, the focus is primarily on introducing theory-driven analysis of international politics, while the winter semester emphasizes thematic and methodological deepening.
