Project 13: Allowing expectation violations! Promoting intellectual humility in conversations with contrary-minded others

Prof. Dr. Christopher Cohrs (Social Psychology)

PhD Student: Lisa Hartke

Contexts of political polarisation are often characterized by negative stereotypes about contrary-minded others, which are maintained through avoidance behaviour and selective, distorted information processing. Intellectual humility, the awareness of one’s own intellectual limitations, can enable people to allow epectation violations in conversations with contrary-minded others, to broaden their own perspective, and to deal with others more constructively. The aim of this project is the development of effective interventions to promote intellectual humility in real-life political conversations.
