29.05.2025 Job advertisement for the position of a Doctoral Researcher/PhD

The Department of Psychology, research group on “Psychological Methods”, PI: Prof. Dr. Daniel Heck, is seeking to fill a part-time (50% of regular working hours), position as a Doctoral Researcher/PhD (m/f/d), for a limited period of three years from 01.10.2025, provided that no previous qualification periods are to be taken into account. The position is graded according to pay group 13 of the collective agreement of the State of Hessen.

Your tasks include  scientific services in research and teaching, research in the field of statistical modeling with a main focus in fields such as Bayesian statistics, cognitive modeling or psychometrics, as well as the development and application of new methods and models in psychology, including collaboration with other research groups. Moreover, your tasks include the  scientific contribution to research projects and publications, the presentation of research findings at (inter)national conferences and teaching psychological methods for bachelor's and master's psychology programs, amounting to 2 semester hours per week.

Within the scope of the assigned tasks, the opportunity for independent scientific work is offered, which serves the applicant's own scientific qualification. The fixed term is in accordance with § 2 para. 1 sentence 1 WissZeitVG.

Your profile includes a university degree (diploma, master's degree or comparable) in psychology, cognitive science, statistics or similar fields, a strong interest in statistics, modelling and methods, programming skill (e.g., in R, Python, Julia, Matlab) or willingness to acquire them, very good english skills as well as the ability to offer courses in German, teamwork skills. Prior knowledge of cognitive modelling, Bayes statistics or psychometrics is advantageous.

Willingness to pursue one's own scientifc qualification (e.g., a doctoral project in the field of psychological methods, statistics, or cognitive modeling) is expected.
