Efficient conservation strategies require detailed information on ecosystems and the species living therein. I use audio and video recordings as well as movement information from tracked individuals to generate high-resolution observation data of different bird and mammal species. This information is then used to model complex interaction networks and trace temporal and spatial changes in habitat or resource availability. Monitoring the whole ecosystem not only allows us to detect shifts in species communities, but also to understand the effect of structural changes for ecosystem functions and stability. My research is part of the LOEWE Nature 4.0 project aiming to develop a modular environmental monitoring system.
