Doctorate
The school of medicine offers PhD programs for natural scientists for a Dr. rer. nat. degree. A natural science research question has to be the primary focus. For doctoral projects focusing on patient recruitment as well as the collection and analysis of patient data, a doctorate leading to the Dr. rer. med. (Medical Sciences) degree can be pursued. For more information please visit the PhD homepage.
Fast track: Doctoral studies option after an 8-semester degree, see § 5 para. 3 of the Doctoral Regulations for Natural Sciences.
The doctoral regulations for natural sciences provide, under certain conditions, the possibility of pursuing a doctorate without a Master’s degree.
Applicants who have completed two semesters (60 credits) of a Masters program in the mathematical-natural sciences or two semesters of the main study phase of a pharmaceutical or medical program may be admitted provided that a grade point average of 1,5 or better (weighted according to ECTS) has been achieved in the modules of the preceding Bachelors program and the Masters program or of the pharmaceutical and medical programs. This generally corresponds to an ECTS grade of A. In addition, the procedure for determining eligibility pursuant to para. 2 lit. c) is regulated by the respective departments in implementing provisions for the subject areas in which this option exists.
If the required grade average is achieved an eligibility assessment procedure may be carried out upon request. The application must be submitted informally to the doctoral office.
