All WiFi devices must be updated until 19.10.2026

Due to a relatively last-minute rule change in the standard for so-called root certificates, the current WiFi settings on all devices will no longer be valid after October 19, 2026. Computers managed centrally by the HRZ using OPSI will be updated automatically. On all other devices, the WiFi setup process must be repeated once.

Please update your devices now—it's in your own best interest!

After the deadline, you should expect longer wait times due to the typically high volume of support requests at the start of the winter semester.

Am I affected?

  • All WiFi users at Philipps University are affected, regardless of where they use eduroam or UMRnet_staff.
  • Users of the eduroam and UMRnet_staff WiFi networks in UKGM buildings are also affected.

What exactly do I need to do?

  • Computers managed by OPSI are updated automatically; please do not reconfigure the WiFi on them yourself.
  • If the geteduroam app is installed on your device, open it again, select your user group, and verify your identity by entering your username and password.
  • If the geteduroam app is not installed, check to see if an automatic installation is available and use it.
  • If an automatic installation is not available or you wish to configure your device manually, follow the instructions marked (manually).
  • If you are leaving Philipps University by the 2026/27 winter semester or will be replacing your devices by that date, you do not need to take any action.

Please always follow all the steps in the instructions at https://www.uni-marburg.de/en/hrz/services/wifi first. If this does not work right away, deleting the old configuration and running the geteduroam app again may help.
