Program to qualify and promote international students as tomorrow's professionals at Philipps-Universität Marburg

The path from studying at a German university to graduating and starting a career in Germany can be associated with various challenges and uncertainties for international students. At the same time, Germany aims to be an attractive and internationally competitive place to work and is recruiting skilled workers worldwide. These two threads are brought together by the DAAD program “FIT - Promotion of International Talents to Integrate into Studies and the labour Market”. The project “MarWay” is being implemented at Marburg University as part of this program.

The Marburg Pathway for international students to employment follows four core objectives:

  1. In order to improve the prospects of academic success for international students, course-related structures and interdisciplinary offers are being expanded with language and subject-specific courses. The courses are complemented by workshops and trainings on academic work techniques and soft skills required for successful studies in Germany.
  2. New curricular teaching modules in the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary MarSkills study area provide international students with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully complete their studies and start their career in Germany. The entire study cycle is covered, starting with an orientation module at the beginning of studies, through modules on career orientation and volunteering in Germany, to communication and networking trainings of modules together with partners of professional practice for the transition into the job market.
  3. By anchoring the project team in the International Office and the Career Service, the expertise of career guidance and advice on residence law is bundled into advisory services that are tailored to the needs of tomorrow's international professionals. Training and support programs promote an understanding of career orientation and career planning as well as international students' expectations of working life.
  4. Through extensive networking with companies and institutions from business, politics, education and society, as well as with student initiatives and associations, structures are created to enable international students to get in touch with professional practice and gain initial work experience. At the same time, local and regional companies can get to know future specialists and actively contribute to their professional development through joint structures and offers.

This is how the Marburg Pathway - MarWay - accompanies the international students and specialists of tomorrow beyond the successful completion of their studies and opens the first doors into the German job market and the German society.
