Motivation

The University of Marburg has prepared its successful research area of materials science for the future: Founded in 1989 the Scientific Center for Materials Science (WZMW), has received a new focus: In 2025, the Marburg Center for Quantum Materials and Sustainable Technologies | mar.quest was established.

Quantum materials such as 2D materials, perovskites, and functional molecules, which are being researched at mar.quest, offer both exciting advances in fundamental understanding of matter and solutions to urgent societal chalenges. In particular, sustainable development - which critically depends on novel energy materials, semiconductors, and carbon-based materials - is a central focus of research at the University of Marburg.
mar.quest brings together diverse perspectives and leverages synergies between different research areas. The center integrates a critical mass of synthesis methods as well as exceptional expertise in theory and characterization, enabling research far beyond the capabilities of individual working groups. In this way, mar.quest provides a collaborative platform for cutting-edge research that facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration, promotes technological advancements leading to sustainable and transformative solutions for society, and trains future generations of researchers and professionals in these crucial fields.
