Jewish Life in Marburg: Remembering Creates Identity

What does it mean to be Jewish and what does Jewish life in Marburg look like?

From May 25 to August 25, 2022, the Religious Studies Collection will be showing an exhibition on Jewish life in Marburg in the Town Hall (Markt 1). It was created in close cooperation with the Jewish Community of Marburg and the Department of Culture of the City of Marburg. The patron is Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies.

The exhibition wants to show that memories are not to be understood in a backward-looking way, but rather shape self-images in the present. The heart of the exhibition is formed by portraits of Jews who tell their very own story. Through family heirlooms, religious objects, photos and interviews, exhibition visitors can learn more about how Jews live in Marburg.

The exhibition can be visited during the regular opening hours of the town hall. Admission is free.

The exhibition is part of the program for the city anniversary "Marburg 800".
