The Master’s degree programme in Applied Methods of Social Research provides you with sound knowledge and practical skills in social science research methods over two semesters. You will learn how to carry out research projects independently. The clear practical focus prepares you specifically for careers that require a high level of methodological and analytical understanding.
The degree programme is aimed at you if you have already acquired basic knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics during your Bachelor’s degree. You should also have experience in areas such as Operationalisation, Measurement, Research Design and the application of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods.
Objectives
Graduates are ideally qualified for demanding positions in Social Science research institutions, public institutions and civil society organisations. The programme also opens up career opportunities in political consulting and the media. In addition, successful completion of the degree programme enables students to pursue a Doctorate and provides a solid foundation for an academic career.
Admission requirements
Required university degree We require proof of completion of a relevant Bachelor’s degree with an overall grade of at least 2.7 in the field of Social Sciences or proof of a comparable professional qualification obtained at a domestic or foreign university.
The Bachelor’s degree or comparable university degree must comprise at least 240 credit points (ECTS) or a course of study with a standard duration of 8 semesters or 4 years.
Proof must be provided that at least 10 credit points have been earned in the field of Social Science methods, including at least 5 credit points in the field of quantitative methods and/or statistics.Certifications of program-specific knowledge and skills to be submitted prior to admission German skills:
