At first glance, it may not be easy to see the connection between history and management. After all, management is traditionally the domain of economics. Nevertheless, there are two areas of management in which those with a background in history are primarily employed: knowledge management and science management. Education also needs to be managed: people with a background in history are often employed as heads of education. The classic additional qualification that combines a background in history with management skills is project management. Experience in committee work, degree program coordination, or student initiatives is also helpful.

  - In exhibition, cultural, and art management, you develop exhibitions and guided tours and organize and purchase e.g. pieces for historical collections.
  - In science management, you coordinate the research activities of your institution and act as an internal broker between all parties involved.
  - You participate in the development and implementation of concepts and strategies and establish and expand national and international partnerships and networks.
  - In document management, you are responsible for managing a wide variety of document types. You review documents and use software to maintain and supplement databases and catalogs.
  - As a content manager, you develop the strategic direction for communications and PR and determine which news and information about your institution will be communicated to the public. You optimize the visual design of your website and improve the accuracy of its content for your target audience.
  - In project management, you devise the objectives of the respective project, determine financial and staff capacities, and specify the respective subtasks. You supervise the implementation of the project and coordinate the work of all involved.
