Career Paths in Education
School education, youth and adult education, ethical environmental education and training, education policy and planning
Philosophy is education! Philosophers are educated people. However, whether they wish to – or are able to – actively and professionally pass on their education to others depends both on their personal attitude and on the opportunities, they have to acquire educational and pedagogical skills whilst studying. This begins with roles in seminars as research assistants and reaches its most professionally focused stage when the study of philosophy is integrated directly into teacher training (philosophy is a school subject in some federal states). Furthermore, due to the acute shortage of teachers, there are once again more opportunities for ‘career changers’ to enter the teaching profession.
