Organization and Administration

Groups, Initiatives, Associations, Federations, Political Parties and Trade Unions, Institutes, Foundations, Government Agencies and Ministries

The field of organization and administration is relatively close to management, yet somewhat different. Administration essentially means setting things in motion and keeping them in motion by means of structuring and sorting activities. Organization and administration encompasses all general fields of activity – such as research, communication, education, consulting, management, and services – each related to the task of the respective organization, from groups to UN organizations. People with a background in political science can be found in all of these fields, but they are particularly successful in the domain of conceptualization and evaluation. “What is our task? How can we structure it so that it runs itself, at least in part? How do we know that we are fulfilling our task?” Organizational experience and knowledge of empiricism and statistics complement political science expertise on the structure of public sector tasks. Career entry is usually via lateral entry as an “employee,” recently accelerated through trainee programs.
