FAQ Digital student ID card & semester ticket
Digital student ID
Where can I find the digital student ID card in the app?
You can access the ID card via “My Studies.” You will see a new menu item called “Student ID Card” there at the top. When you select this, you will first need to log in with your student account and you will be informed once about the processing of your data. The card will be displayed once you have granted your consent. Incidentally: you will see your German semester ticket directly below it.
How do I use the digital student ID card?
If you don’t already have it, install the Uni Marburg app. The app is available free of charge for Android devices in the Google Play Store and for iOS devices in the App Store.
Open the Uni Marburg app; you will find your digital student ID card in the “My Studies” section. Here you will find the “Student ID” menu item at the top. When you select this, you will first need to log in with your student account and you will be informed once about the processing of your data. The card will be displayed once you have granted your consent. Incidentally: you will see your German semester ticket directly below it.
Will printed student ID cards with DB long-distance tickets no longer be available from the 2025/26 winter semester?
That’s right, they will no longer be available from the 2025/26 winter semester. Until now, the student ID card and the DB long-distance ticket were sent to all students by post before the start of the semester. As a result of integrating the student ID card and the DB ticket in the university app, postal delivery will be discontinued from the 2025/26 winter semester onwards.
Is the University of Marburg app accessible with the digital student ID card?
Accessibility was taken into account from the outset, for example with the Service and Advice Centre for Inclusive Studying (SBS) involved in the project. The app’s accessibility is currently not yet ideal. The project team is working with the SBS, the student council and the provider to improve accessibility. A great deal has already been achieved by way of the update to version number 3.135.0 (Build:5591): navigation is now easier, as is accessing the digital student ID card, including the semester ticket. We are aware that problems involving the feed remain. However, these will also be fixed.
I don't have a mobile device or don’t want to use one. What can I do?
If you need proof of your student status, you can download and print your certificate of enrolment on your PC via your Marvin account > “Notifications/Certificates” tab. You can use this to identify yourself as a student at the University of Marburg and, for example, renew your Ucard at the canteen checkout.
You can apply for a special chip card from the AStA if you would also like to use the Germany semester ticket and the DB long-distance ticket in analogue form. This application also includes the option of receiving the DB ticket in the familiar paper form for the last time for the 2025/26 winter semester on a transitional basis. Please contact the AStA directly for this. Incidentally: from 01.04.2026, the DB long-distance transport component will be discontinued because the student parliament has voted to terminate the contracts with Deutsche Bahn.
I have lost my mobile phone, which contains my student ID. What can I do?
In this case, you can use the printout of your enrolment certificate from Marvin to identify yourself as a university student (e.g. at the canteen checkout). Incidentally, you can use the ID on up to three devices simultaneously. To do this, you just need to install the University of Marburg app on those devices and log in accordingly.
Can I transfer the digital student ID to my personal wallet?
By default, the digital student ID is only available via the University of Marburg app. Direct transfer to a digital wallet (e.g. Apple Wallet or Google Wallet) is not planned at present.
Until now, my student ID and photo ID (driving licence, passport, identity card) have been checked during examinations. How is a person’s identity verified when mobile phones are prohibited?
These processes will also be gradually adapted by introducing the digital student ID card. Since the students taking the exam are already registered for the exam via Marvin, it is generally sufficient to check your photo ID (ID card, driving licence or passport). There is no need to check your student ID card as well. Alternatively, we recommend that departments check student ID cards before the exam begins or communicate to students which of the documents from Marvin they should bring with them in printed form. Please find out in good time before exams which procedure is used in your department.
What should I do if my first name and/or sex on my student ID card differs from the information on my identity card?
That should not cause any problems for you. We explicitly point out to the departments that in such a case it is still possible to verify your date of birth and surname.
Alternatively, you can also present a supplementary ID card from dgti e.V. (additional info). The departments are instructed to accept this.Further information and counselling services for TIN persons can be found on the website of the Central Women’s and Equal Opportunities Officer at the University of Marburg.
Who can I contact if I have problems logging in?
Please direct technical support requests and questions about the functionality of the university app to UniNow support. This can be accessed directly via the in-app support chat (available, for example, in the “Feed” tab via the “Support” menu item at the top of the page), or you can contact the email address support@uninow.de.
Semester ticket
Where can I find the Germany semester ticket in the app?
I have re-registered within the deadline. Why does my Germany semester ticket still show the old validity (from the current semester)?
Even after successful re-registration, the validity date of your Germany semester ticket will only change at the beginning of the next semester. This means that only the validity period for the current semester will be displayed. This is different compared to the student ID card. Here, the extension of the validity period beyond the current semester will be visible immediately after re-registration.
Is the DB logo in the app sufficient proof for the DB long-distance ticket, or is there also a QR code that I need to present on the train?
You can use your DB long-distance ticket on the relevant routes simply by showing your digital student ID, the DB logo underneath it and a valid photo ID (usually your identity card or driving licence). There is no QR code for this. Tapping on the logo does not activate any other function. The DB logo is the ticket!
I don't have a mobile device or don’t want to use one. What can I do?
As was previously the case, there is an emergency option for the Germany Semester Ticket in the form of a chip card, which you can apply for via the RMV. You can find information about this on the “Semester Ticket” page of the Marburg AStA Transport Department.
Can I continue to use Ride Campus to use the Germany semester ticket for students?
Yes, this option will continue to be available. However, the Germany semester ticket will also be displayed in the University of Marburg app when you open your student ID. The ticket will appear directly below the ID. The Germany semester ticket can be used with both apps. If you use the University of Marburg app, you no longer need Ride Campus in that regard.
Is the University of Marburg app accessible with the Germany semester ticket for students?
Accessibility was taken into account from the outset, for example with the Service and Advice Centre for Inclusive Studying (SBS) involved in the project. The app’s accessibility is currently not yet ideal. The project team is working with the SBS, the student council and the provider to improve accessibility. I would like to use the Germany Semester Ticket on multiple devices. Is that possible?
Yes, you can use your ticket and student ID on up to three devices simultaneously.

Can I transfer the Germany semester ticket to my personal wallet?

The University of Marburg app and the Ride Campus app can be used in tandem, i.e. the ticket can be displayed in both apps.
I would like to deregister. How long will my student ID card and semester ticket remain valid?
