Financial Support

The Erasmus+ Programme offers financial support according to set funding rates.

  • Mobility Funding according to Lump Sums

Participants receive a mobility grant for the duration of their studies as well as a lump sum for travel expenses.

The amount of the scholarship is as follows:

    - Monthly grant of 850 euros (individual support)

    - Travel expenses (lump sum amount according to the EU Distance Calculator)

Details of the financial support and the payment modalities for the student are specified in the Grant Agreement, the contract between the student and the European host university, which has to be signed before the start of the mobility period. This document will be issued by Philipps-Universität Marburg after you have been selected for the programme.

Change of individual support from project 2024 onwards: The lump sum for the individual support will be raised to 900 EUR/month starting from project 2024 onwards. The sums covering travel expenses will not be raised.

  • Green Travel

Erasmus+ participants who choose a low-emission mode of transport for travel to and from their destination can apply for a grant (top-up) and additional funding days.

Green Travel is defined as travel that uses low-emission means of transport such as bus, train or carpooling for the majority of the journey. Green Travel funding consists of a travel allowance and additional funding days:

    Travel allowance

in addition to the travel support granted (for a travel distance of up to 4,000 km): 30 EUR - 80 EUR higher rate, depending on distance

    Additional support days

Additional support days can be granted if a longer time is needed for the journey due to the use of sustainable means of transport. A journey during the time between 6:00 and 24:00 is considered reasonable. Please contact us if this applies to your journey.

    Eligible means of transport

Bus, train, carpool, bicycle, other sustainable means of transport

    Non-eligible means of transport

    Car, plane, ship

The application must be received by your home university before the start of your mobility. Please contact us if you would like to submit an application.

  • Top-Ups

In order to cover any additional costs of your stay, you can apply for an additional grant of 250 EUR/ month if the following criteria apply to you:

    • Disability

Evidence required: Medical certificate (signed by a registered doctor) stating that the student is considered severely disabled in accordance with national regulations.

    • Chronic Disease

Evidence required: Medical certificate (signed by a registered medical practitioner) stating that the student has a chronic medical condition which causes an additional financial burden during physical mobility at Philipps University.

    • Students with a child
      • At least one child will be taken to the University of Marburg during the entire stay
      • the additional funding is calculated independently of the number of children participating in the mobility measure
      • a possible partner (with own Erasmus+ funding) can also claim additional funding (e.g. if two children are taken along)
      • double funding of one child (if both parents are funded) is excluded.

    • First-time academics
First-time academics are students whose parents or legal guardians (e.g. stepparents and other legal guardians) have not graduated from a university or university of applied sciences. Specifically, this means:
      • a degree from a university of cooperative education that leads to a qualification comparable to a university degree and is to be regarded as an academic degree.
      • a master craftsman's diploma is not to be equated with an academic degree in this context
      • courses completed by a parent abroad which are not recognised as such in Germany (e.g. physiotherapy) are deemed to be academic degrees within the meaning of the eligibility requirements for the award of the additional scholarship.

    • Working students
      Conditions:
      • Activity subject to social insurance contributions (employment)
      • Uninterrupted employment of at least six months in the year prior to mobility.
      • The average income during the last six months must not exceed a local equivalent (adjusted to purchasing power) of 450 - 850 EUR/ month in Germany.

      • Economic Barriers
        • For students to Marburg with ecconomic disadvantages like a low standard of living, low income, dependence on the social welfare system, in long-term unemployment, precarious situations or poverty, being homeless, in debt or with financial problems, etc.

The sending institution must sign the application for top-up by co-signing the student's declaration on honour provided by Philipps-Universität. Documents proving the entitlement to a top-up must be kept and archived for at least five years and must be submitted upon request by the sending partner. Only one of the Top-ups can be claimed. Combination with the green travel supplement is possible. The declaration on honour must be submitted to Philipps-Universität together with the nomination of a student.

    • Application for Real Costs

If you have exceptionally high costs during your semester abroad at the Philipps-Universität and one of the following two criteria applies to you, you can submit a real cost application to cover your additional costs. Please note that this application cannot be combined with a Top-Up of the same category.
