XSpaces: The Spaces

The XSpaces at Philipps-Universität are innovative, creative and interconnected workspaces. They include a Game Lab and an Open Lab in the University Library, a Makerspace at the MAFEX start-up service on the Lahnberge and a Creative Space in Bahnhofstraße 7. The name XSpaces forms the common umbrella for the university-wide facilities and other associated projects.

Game Lab

The Game Lab offers game consoles (PS5, XboX, Switch) and powerful workstations (Blender, Unity etc.) as well as a VR area (HTC Vive, Pico Neo 3), AR headsets and a stationary VR treadmill for viewing computer and video games, virtual reality apps and serious games and evaluating them for use in research and teaching.
Open Lab

The Open Lab has a 3D scanner and 3D printer to produce 3D scans of real objects or visualisation objects, model figures or technical prototypes. There are also opportunities for collaborative digital work with the help of an interactive touch display.
Creative Space

The Creative Space offers young academics a space for creative project development, conferences, workshops, interdisciplinary events, etc. Attractive rooms with flexible furnishings and the technical infrastructure for creative collaboration promote new forms of academic collaboration.
Makerspace

The MAFEX Makerspace on the Lahnberge is a place where creative ideas can be developed and directly put into practice. In our (still) small workshop, students and (young) scientists can drive their projects forward to the prototype stage. The space is also available for practice-orientated teaching.
