Ecology Lab Prof. Dr. Roland Brandl

Ecology seeks to understand the relationship of organisms with each other and the environment. These interactions lead to the fascinating patterns of biodiversity, ranging from communities within a few cubic centimetres of soil to the vast areas covered by rain forests.  Ecology is the basis to protect species, their habitats and ecosystems from extinction due to human impact on land-use and climate. As a team we are concerned with the present dramatic loss of biodiversity, particularly in the tropics. Therefore our group studies the evolution and ecology of biodiversity as well as the consequences of declining biodiversity without any bias towards a group of organism or a particular ecosystem. We study microbes, fungi, plants and animals and we did research in marine, freshwater and terrestrial systems across the world.

This workgroup is part of the Organismic Biology in Marburg
