Contents

In this minor subject, you will study the connections between the pre-modern period (ancient world, Middle Ages, early modern era) and the world of today and be able to discuss them from an academic perspective. You will be able to put original-language primary sources into context and interpret them in the context of the latest research debates. A module with an epoch-spanning design that focuses on a critical reflection on historical patterns of order will enable you to improve your analytical skills. The content of the minor subject is aimed at the reconstruction of pre-modern societies and at understanding their differences and what they have in common. Whilst examining the epochal shifts between the ancient world, the Middle Ages and the early modern era, students will acquire a comprehensive historical awareness that will allow them to reflect critically upon their position in the world of today. You will acquire a unique intellectual tool kit, refine your ability to think in a differentiated manner and thus receive an education that – far beyond the specialisation – provides a variety of benefits for the professional world as well as for the state and society.

Prospects

Students who acquire a bachelor’s degree will then be qualified for work in the publishing and education sector (adult education, continuing education) as well as in the journalism and public relations sectors, and for consultancy work (consulting, coaching).

A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
