The Hittitology minor provides a solid education in ancient Anatolian languages and textual evidence from the Middle and Late Bronze Age. The core of the subject is Hittite, the most extensively documented ancient Anatolian language. It is also possible to acquire additional Anatolian and Ancient Oriental languages. This will provide you with comprehensive knowledge covering the entire spectrum of languages of ancient Anatolia in the 2nd and 1st millennia BC and the important neighbouring languages.
This minor can therefore be a useful addition to a major in Historical-Comparative Linguistics or Ancient Near Eastern Studies, as well as in Prehistory and Early History, Archaeology and History.

An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire valuable, future-oriented skills.

Prospects

The fundamental knowledge of the subject and methods acquired in this minor will enable you to comprehend and classify scientific work in the field of Hittitology.
After completing the course, you will have gained key organisational, communicative, social and intellectual skills. You will be able to independently explore new research topics, organise your own projects and argue at a scientific level. You will acquire the ability to produce and present texts according to your language and communication skills, including the ability to express yourself excellently in German, both orally and in writing.
After completing your studies, you will be able to work in all areas of cultural education and cultural management. Depending on your chosen major and your personal interest and motivation, you will have access to jobs in publishing houses, archives, museums and adult education institutions, as well as in science management and public relations and (social) media. The social, communication and linguistics skills you acquire may also qualify you for employment in specific areas of politics (especially science and education policy) and business.

A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
