Would you like to enrich your major with scientific knowledge? With Chemistry as a minor subject, you will gain fundamental insights into the world of substances and reactions – ideal for giving your studies an interdisciplinary focus. Whether Biology, Physics, Engineering or Economics – Chemistry perfectly complements many disciplines and provides you with a solid foundation for better understanding complex interrelationships.
The minor is deliberately designed to provide you with essential chemical knowledge without overwhelming you. You will learn the fundamentals of chemical principles, conduct experiments in the laboratory and develop analytical thinking skills – all tailored to your individual study goals.
Depending on your interests, you can focus on General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Theoretical Chemistry to deepen your knowledge and skills in these areas – or you can take basic modules in all of the above-mentioned sub-disciplines to gain a broader understanding of Chemistry.
Prospects
The primary fields of work include public relations, communications consultancy and related consulting work, but also the areas of university, human resources, publishing, media and media production, tourism and documentation and library services, science management, project management, content marketing, as well as language teaching in business and industry, advertising, politics, trade and transport.
In everyday working life, the ability to think beyond the boundaries of one’s own field is becoming increasingly important. Interdisciplinary expertise is the key to success in modern fields of work. With Chemistry as a minor subject, you demonstrate versatility and improve your chances in careers that combine scientific, technical or economic challenges.
Understanding and assessing biological issues is becoming increasingly important in a wide range of professions. The minor programme prepares you for work, in particular, in the interdisciplinary field between your chosen major subject and Chemistry. You will not only be able to understand and apply fundamental concepts, principles and theories of Chemistry, but also independently apply selected fundamental experimental techniques in laboratory practicals, collect, analyse and interpret data, and learn to critically evaluate your results.
