Our research motivation is to improve the treatment for people who suffer from chronic (back) pain. The development and evaluation of effective and helpful therapeutic interventions are particularly important to us. In this context, we are interested in effective therapy processes as well as the lasting effects of psychological interventions. In addition to practically-oriented clinical research, we use experimental studies to investigate psychological factors that influence the chronification of pain. Based on the Fear-Avoidance Model we conduct research on pain-related avoidance behavior, learning mechanisms, pain-related expectations and fears.
