The goal of the interdisciplinary Friedens- und Konfliktforschung / Peace and Conflict Studies master's program is to impart analytical and practical qualifications in the field of peace and conflict research. These particularly include capabilities of being able to analyze conflicts according to their subject matter, their progression, their causes and actors, and to develop prospects for peace, regulation or resolution of conflicts.

The program's content is made up of political conflicts from global society. Courses are dominated by methods such as roleplaying and simulation games, scenario development, small group work, workshops and enactments. The program comprises, among other things, an international internship, English-language courses, interdisciplinary research seminars and a transdisciplinary exercise on conflict management.

Major topics

A major content focus of the master's program is on the management and peaceful regulation of conflicts.

Potentially dangerous conflicts that are disputed in or between states are a primary focus. The international and global environment of these conflicts plays a special role here.

The Friedens- und Konfliktforschung / Peace and Conflict Studies program enables you to work professionally in a wide range of fields. The program's practical connection, the didactic concept with its intensive interchange between instructors and students, and intensive advisement by instructors ensure a disciplinary and profession-based education of the highest level.

Depending on the individual major topic, e.g. through selection of the international internship, through conflict analyses according to specific perspectives, the master's thesis, etc., holding a profession in the following fields is conceivable, for example:

Science (universities, research institutions, esp. in interdisciplinary and international research contexts); civil conflict management (e.g. non-governmental organizations); governmental institutions and organizations (e.g. in the field of conflict management); conflict mediation / conflict management; political consulting, organizational consulting; media (incl. publishing) and public relations; economy (industry, corporations, independent / private services).
