GenDem - Entanglements of Anti-Feminisms: Gender, Democracy, and Authoritarianism in “Entangled Modernities

The LOEWE research focus GenDem provides the first systematic and comparative analysis of anti-feminist mobilisations in Western and Eastern European countries and the South Caucasus. It examines the conditions under which these movements emerge, how they are transnationally connected, and what influence they exert on processes of democratisation or authoritarianism. The project combines perspectives from political science, sociology, and history to investigate the entanglements of anti-feminism, democracy-threatening ideologies, and authoritarian tendencies in comparative perspective.

Project duration: 2026–2029
