Contents

After completing the minor, you will be able to identify key situations in older and more recent music history and place individual events, works and personalities in these contexts. Furthermore, you will analyse music directly from the source and place music in its historical context. Depending on your chosen specialisation, you will also learn how to write about music, how music can be analysed in different cultural and social contexts and how it interacts with other media.

Prospects

Depending on your choice of major, the qualifications you obtain by way of your minor subject will open doors to various music-related fields. These include, for example, jobs in cultural management, (music) journalism on radio or television, jobs in music marketing, for example at music-related PR agencies, music labels or publishers, event management, for example at music festivals or in the concert industry, dramaturgical jobs, for example at concert halls or in event planning and booking or jobs in cultural administration.

A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
