“You never stop learning”—this saying rings truer today than ever before. Demographic change is transforming our society. New challenges, and not least the job market, demand continuous professional development. Lifelong learning thus becomes a central component of successful educational trajectories.
The major in Educational Science: Education and Learning Across the Lifespan addresses these developments. It provides you with fundamental knowledge about lifelong learning and out-of-school education. It strengthens your ability to conduct academic research and introduces you to methods of target group, needs, and social space analysis.
You will develop a broad understanding of basic concepts in educational science, such as the life course, individual learning trajectories, and the contextual conditions of learning processes. You will learn how educational programs for adult education and out-of-school contexts can be planned and implemented.
In the combined bachelor’s program, you can combine this major with minors in the social sciences or Business and Economics, for example, to shape your personal academic profile.
Prospects
The major “Educational Science: Education and Learning Throughout the Lifespan” generally qualifies you for careers in adult education, corporate human resources development, or cultural work, where learning and educational processes are initiated and supported:
• General, political, and academic adult education
• Vocational, corporate, and commercial continuing education
• Human resources and organizational development
• Extracurricular youth education and education for older adults
• Church- and union-based educational work, as well as work in social movements
• Education-focused subfields in sports, tourism, recreation, and environmental education
If you have a strong interest in academia, you can continue your studies directly with a master’s program after obtaining your degree. For particularly high-achieving students, the department also offers the opportunity to complete initial modules for a future master’s program as part of an excellence grant program while still in the bachelor’s program.
Your choice of major significantly shapes your professional profile. Combined with one or two minors, your career-related experience (e.g., internships, part-time jobs, volunteer work), and your personal skills, you can refine your profile and shape your own unique range of career opportunities.
