Obtaining Language Skills

If you do not yet have sufficient language skills, you can still apply to study. If you are accepted, you will receive conditional admission and can take part in language courses before starting your degree program. During this time, we can register you as a language student for two semesters. According to § 16b para. 5 sentence 3 of the Residence Act, the period of preparatory language courses is usually one year and should not exceed two years. To ensure that this requirement is met, we require additional documents for re-registration for the third and fourth DSH semester. A current certificate of attendance confirming regular attendance of German courses and the result of a German examination must be sent to us by the re-registration deadline. The language preparation ends after four DSH semesters. There are no exceptions to this rule. This also applies to Studienkollegiatinnen and Studienkollegiaten who complete a language course before attending the specialized courses. We recommend having a language level of B1 when applying.

You can participate in a language course of your choosing. The following institutions at the Philipp University of Marburg offer language courses:

Studying After the Language Course

You have successfully completed your language course with the corresponding examination and would like to study. To do so, you must either transfer via the university's portal Marvin or (re)-apply. Differentiation is made between open admission programs and restricted admission programs.

In the case of open admission programs, you can transfer directly after successfully passing the language examination. The prerequisite for this is that you are also already registered as a student in a language course. After logging into your students-account, you can click on “studies offered” and “online application”. Then add a request for the study program of your choice. Send the letter of enrollment and the other requested documents that are mentioned in the letter to your designated administrator.

In the case of restricted admission programs (numerus clausus), you have to apply for the program again after passing the language examination. For an undergraduate program, you can re-apply in our university's portal Marvin. For a restricted admission master's program, you have to re-apply via uni-assist. Students who have finished the Studienkolleg have to apply via uni-assist for all programs.

Those who are not registered for the language course or have not yet applied have to (re)-apply via uni-assist in both cases.

Those who finish the Preparatory College of Mittelhessen and want to study at Philipps-Universität Marburg have to re-apply via uni-assist in every case.

Important:

Please note the application deadlines. You can find them on the website of the respective program.
