The Family Service supports you in finding and improving solutions for balancing your academic, work, and family duties. Families come in many shapes and sizes, each with different needs at every stage of life. Whether you're managing studies, work, research, or caring for children, partners, parents, or other loved ones, we are here to help. We look forward to supporting you!

Childcare Services
Preparing for a new baby brings many questions. If you're expecting and want to plan ahead, various resources are available to support you. From pregnancy counseling to information on parental leave and financial benefits, we provide guidance to help you navigate this exciting time.
If you have questions about family benefits, childcare options, or parental support, we can help you understand your rights and available resources.
For parents new to Marburg or those raising children alone, connecting with other families can be incredibly helpful. Join parent meet-ups, or engage in community groups to exchange experiences and build a support network.

University Daycare
The University of Marburg offers daycare places in four daycare facilities for children under three years old – exclusively for members of the university (students and staff). Two of these daycare centers are located in the city center of Marburg, the other two are situated on the Lahnberge campus: The Anneliese Pohl Kindertagesstätte and the KiTa Zappel-Philipp (websites in German). Placement priority is given to university members living within the Marburg city area. Once those members have secured a spot, children of university families living outside the city may also be considered.
Flexi Childcare (Flexi-Betreuung)
If you are a university employee and need childcare outside of regular hours – for example due to overtime, business trips, lectures after normal daycare times, conferences, or meetings – the University offers a free flexible childcare service. A qualified caregiver provides care tailored to the family's needs, including flexibility in time and location, so care can take place at your home, in one of the University's parent-child rooms, or elsewhere as agreed. Children of different ages can be cared for as arranged with the caregiver, for as long and as frequently as needed, and the costs for this service are covered by the University. To use the service, please contact the University's Family Service to check eligibility and obtain the caregiver's contact details. You then arrange the care directly with the caregiver and submit the necessary information via a provided form.
Babysitter Exchange
The University offers a Babysitter Exchange (website in German), a platform where parents affiliated with the University can find student or staff babysitters. It is intended to support flexible childcare for lectures, exams, work, conferences, or other events outside regular childcare hours. The platform allows parents to search for available babysitters, contact them directly, and agree on hours and payment. The Babysitter Exchange is provided free of charge by the University and helps families arrange childcare with responsible caregivers.
Caregiving
Balancing caregiving responsibilities with work or studies can be challenging, and we are committed to making it easier.
Care duties don’t just involve elderly relatives – they may also involve children, partners, siblings, or other family members. Accidents, illnesses, or disabilities often require adjustments in daily life and can affect family routines.
A caregiving situation can arise unexpectedly, catching families unprepared. Even when care is already in place, needs may change gradually or suddenly, requiring adjustments in support and time management.
Many caregivers take on these responsibilities alone for long periods, often neglecting their own well-being. However, with the right support, the stress of caregiving can be managed, and burnout can be prevented.

The University of Marburg's Dual Career Service supports dual career couples in their search for career-related connections and opportunities in Marburg and the region.
