26.03.2024 Screening of film by Zhigoneshi Communications Collective of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Colombia) with discussion and bring-along breakfast (in English)

On Friday 12 April, we invite all students to a film screening by CECICC- guest lecturer Lorena Aja Eslava from the Universidad del Magdalena (Colombia) from 10 am to 1 pm in the facilities of our ethnographic collection. After a short introduction, we will watch the film “Resistencia en la Línea Negra” (Resistance along the Black Line) and discuss it while looking at objects from the Sierra Nevada.

"Resistencia en la Línea Negra" is a documentary created by the Zhigoneshi Communications Collective of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in 2011. The purpose of the Zhigoneshi Collective is to make indigenous thinking and the problems they face as a society visible in their own language, while at the same time representing themselves autonomously and sovereignly. Moreover, audio-visual language facilitates communication with the wider society as it is a form of representation that is welcomed by non-indigenous society. By constructing representations of themselves as indigenous peoples through the documentary, the Zhigoneshi Collective wants to show how their way of thinking, reflections and processes of resistance are a fabric that contributes to the dialogue between communities in order to reflect on how the territory of the Linea Negra can continue to survive and be maintained.

Please remember that this event is in English and takes place in the Ethnographic Collection, Rudolph-Bultmann-Str. 4a/b and don't forget your breakfast!
