“Time and action make the hours seem short.”

Maria Akselrod shares her experience as an intern at the Department of English and American Studies

“Time and action make the hours seem short.”

This quote by Shakespeare adequately summarizes what I experienced during my two-week internship in January at the Institute of English and American Studies at Philipps-Universität Marburg. I used this opportunity because I wanted to expand my language skills and learn more about university life and work.

“How do I teach English and American Studies?” “What is the job of a vice-president?” and “What does a seminar look like?”: This is only the tip of the iceberg of what I learned during my internship. I was very impressed by the great English skills of the students and how far the partnerships all around the world reach. It was a bit unfortunate that everything happened online due to the corona crisis. But I am still very glad that I had the opportunity to be there and especially that my internship mentor Prof. Dr. Carmen Birkle was ready to offer insights into teaching, studying, administration, and research meetings, discussed with me Stephen King’s recent novel Later, and supported me all the time.
