Willkommen bei den Bachelorstudiengängen am Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik der Philipps-Universität Marburg! Die Angebote zu englischsprachigen Kulturen und Literaturen bei uns sind vielfältig. Sie erhalten eine intensive sprachpraktische, literatur-, kultur- und sprachwissenschaftliche Ausbildung, die Ihnen viele Berufsfelder und weiterführende Master-Studiengänge eröffnet sowie vertiefte Kenntnisse über zahlreiche englischsprachige Länder vermittelt. Sie beschäftigen sich unter anderem mit den Chancen und Gefahren von politischen Entwicklungen wie dem Brexit, dem Populismus, der Relevanz Shakespeares und seiner Zeitgenossen in seiner und unserer Zeit, mit zeitgenössischer Fantasy-Literatur, mit Kriminalromanen, mit der Literatur und Kultur des Vereinigten Königreichs, Irlands, Kanadas und der Vereinigten Staaten. Zeitgenössische kulturelle Phänomene wie z.B. die Bedeutung von TV-Serien, Fake News, der #BlackLivesMatter und der #MeToo-Debatten und Fragen der zunehmenden Technologisierung (in und durch Medien) sind ebenso Teil Ihres Studienprogramms wie die Frage nach der Rolle der Sprache in Politik und Gesellschaft. Neben Team-, Diskussions- und Medienkompetenz stehen weitere Schlüsselkompetenzen wie vernetztes Denken und Kommunikationsfähigkeit in einem interkulturellen Kontext im Vordergrund. Unser breit gefächertes Lehrangebot wird regelmäßig durch Exkursionen bereichert. Wir ermöglichen Ihnen außerdem Auslandsaufenthalte an zahlreichen Partneruniversitäten im englischsprachigen Raum und Mentoring zu berufsorientierenden Praktika.

Welcome to the Bachelor's programs at the Department of English and American Studies at Philipps University Marburg! BA Anglophone Studies students in advanced semesters will find information about the organization of their studies here. Starting in winter semester 20/21, first-semester students begin the successor program, BA American, British, and Canadian Studies, and will find all the information regarding the program here.
We offer a wide range of courses on English-speaking cultures and literature. You can expect to receive an education which covers areas such as the English language itself in practice and theory, literature, culture, and linguistics, which will open various occupational fields and subsequent master's programs to you, as well as provide you with in-depth knowledge of numerous English-speaking countries all over the world. Throughout the course of your studies, you will address topics such as the benefits and dangers of political developments such as Brexit and populism, the relevance of Shakespeare and his contemporaries in his and our times, contemporary fantasy literature, crime novels, the literature and cultures of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and the United States. Contemporary cultural phenomena such as the importance of TV series, fake news, the #BlackLivesMatter and the #MeToo debates and questions of increasing use of technology (in and by the media) are as much a part of your study program as, for example, the question of the role of language in politics and society. Competencies and skills that will be of great importance are teamwork, discussion and media skills, and the ability to think interconnectedly as well as to communicate in an intercultural context. The wide range of available courses are regularly enriched by excursions. We are well connected with numerous partner universities in English-speaking countries and offer mentoring for career-related internships at the department as well.
