Presenting at Conferences and in Discussions – Your Attention, Please!

Successful communication in oral presentations is essential in academia. Talks, panel discussions, and poster presentations shape how colleagues and the public perceive you and your research. How you present your research and yourself can make or break a grant application, a job opportunity, or a collaboration down the line. In this seminar, we teach and help you practice authentic presentation techniques that work. What's more, we will discuss ideas and rules of thumb for successful networking strategies.

Intended Learning Outcomes

• You develop and hone an authentic and confident presentation style (trainer input, feedback).
• You use body language, eye contact, and rhetorical techniques to attract and keep the audience's attention (practical exercises).
• You optimize the structure and choice of the presented content (pitches, poster presentation).
• You understand your professional self-presentation and networking strategies at conferences (practical exercises, trainer input)

Requirements

You have the possibility to send a poster (PPT or PDF) or a presentation (PPT, max. 15 slides) to the trainer one week prior to the workshop in order to receive feedback on the structure and design of your poster/presentation.
Please note that this is not an English language course. Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.

This event can be credited in the certificate program "Entwicklung und Management von Forschungsprojekten" EMF.

Until 14 days before the beginning of the course at mara.lnw@uni-marburg.de.
Registration is binding. In case of non-appearance without reason or cancellation twelve days beforehand, the full registration fee has to be payed.
