In this workshop, you reflect the basic rules and values of the responsible conduct of research and learn to distinguish between good practice, questionable scientific practice and misconduct. You will develop solutions for difficult situations in the process of science. You are encouraged to speak about mistakes and problems. The following aspects will be discussed:

  • Degrees and extent of scientific misconduct.
  • Dealing with data, sources and ideas.
  • Authorship and the process of publishing.
  • Conflict management: how to deal with scientific misconduct.

Intended Learning Outcomes

After the workshop, you

  • will be able to name important principles of good scientific practice and show their importance in the process of science (small group work),
  • can discuss important aspects of and problems with authorship, publication culture and data management with colleagues and make the discussed examples useful for your own situation (case discussions),
  • can identify various forms of scientific misconduct of different magnitudes and explain why they hinder or corrupt the process of science (case discussions and small group work),
  • can avail yourself of the appropriate procedures of counselling and support in case of conflicts (information),
  • are motivated to uphold your own scientific integrity by discussing specific and structural deficits with your co-workers (case discussions). 

Requirements

Please note that this is not an English language course. Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.

Please note that your registration is binding. You may cancel your registration up to twelve days before the beginning of the course without providing specific reasons. Thereafter, you will be required to pay the attendance fee even if you do not attend the course.
