Hassan Turi has been working with Alliance for Urban Rights (AUR) and predecessor All Pakistan Alliance for Katchi Abadis (APAKA) an association of slum-dwellers and activists, struggling for the recognition and protection of the right to housing in Pakistan.

He got his master’s degree in development studies with a major in Agrarian, Food and Environmental Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies, The Hague. His master’s thesis focused on youth involvement in farming and patterns of migration due to violence from Pakistan’s tribal area bordering Afghanistan.

He is also an active member of Emancipatory, Rural Politics, Initiative (ERPI) South Asia Collective, an organisation of scholar – Activists focusing  on social and political processes in rural spaces generating  alternatives to regressive authoritarian politics. Along with that he is also a photo – journalist and earlier this year he won the first prize for his photo – story on land dispossession in Rawalpindi Pakistan. His photos has been published on Sanaa Alimia’s book “Refugee Cities: How Afghans changed urban Pakistan.

Hassan has been writing for online magazines and newspapers on topics related to agrarian change and violence in tribal areas of Pakistan. He is joining the research team of Felix Anderl at the Center for Conflict Studies Marburg.
