Patrick Hufschmidt is a postdoctoral researcher and teaching assistant affiliated with the research groups Public Economics (Prof. Dr. Tim Friehe) and Institutional Economics (Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Schulte). His main areas of interest are Political Economy and Public Economics. In his research, he uses microeconometric methods to shed light on how political decisions influence the economy.
More specifically, his work examines how political institutions and incentives affect public resource allocation, regional development, and socio-economic outcomes. His recent research covers topics such as mineral resource wealth in Africa, political budget cycles in India, regional and ethnic favoritism, building regulation, and conflict-related policy interventions. By combining quantitative methods with detailed regional and geocoded data, his research aims to better understand how politics shapes economic development and public policy outcomes across different institutional settings."
