The Philipps-University of Marburg and the School of Business & Economics

The Philipps-University has an unusually long academic tradition; it was founded in 1527 by Landgrave Philipp. The roots of economic research in Marburg go back to 1928. The School of Business & Economics was established in 1970 as part of a major reorganisation of the university. Several famous economicsts studied and/or taught at Philipps-University, including Wilhlem Röpke (1899-1966), one of the fathers of the German social market economy.

Today, the School of Business & Economics has 18 tenured professors, roughly 70 assistant professors, lecturers, and research assistants, and about 1,900 students. The School is housed in four historical buildings all of which are located very close ot the historical city centre of Marburg and within walking distance of each other.

The Students in the Master of Science in International Political Economy Programme

We believe that every single student plays a key role in strengthening and improving the programme. Therefore, we put a lot of time and effort into selecting our students, basing our decisions not only on written documents but also personal interviews. We have an upper admission limit af around 10 students per year with an undergraduate economics education (about 10 students with an undergraduate political science education are selected by the University of Texas at Dallas). Limiting the number of students in the programme ensures small class sizes and an excellent students-to-professor ratio.
