AG Functional Materials

Growth, Quantitative Structural Analysis and Device Applications of Hybrid- and Nano-Structures

Welcome to the websites of the AG Functional Materials

In our research group, we focus on two major thematic areas. One focus is the growth of novel quantum materials using metal–organic vapor-phase epitaxy (MOVPE). The other focus is the structural characterization of the materials produced in this way, as well as other exciting material systems. These include, for example, energy materials such as solid-state batteries, fuel cells, and solar cells for direct water splitting. For quantitative structural analysis, we employ state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopes and combine these results with computer-based simulations. Our interdisciplinary research approach involves close collaboration with a wide range of partners in the fields of chemistry, structural analysis, surface physics, spectroscopy, semiconductor theory, and the physics of device applications, both at Philipps University of Marburg and worldwide.

These research efforts are financially supported by various research contracts by the German Research Foundation (DFG), by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and by the European Union as well as by direct collaborations with industry partners.
