03.11.2026 Closing Ceremony of the Mandatory Elective Internship „Frauen in Heilkunde und Naturwissenschaften“
On Thursday, 22 October 2026, the students participating in the mandatory elective internship, Deyana Mohammad, Sara Gicevic and Charlene Dietrich, proudly presented the results of their work in a poster session at the Institute for the History of Pharmacy and Medicine.
Throughout the internship, the three students engaged intensively with a range of topics, including power relations in the natural sciences, female role models throughout history, girls’ education and employment, women in alchemy, and the narrative of female poisoners. After a collaborative phase including various teaching and learning formats – during which they gradually acquired more background knowledge through interactive seminars, wide-ranging discussions and a visit to the university archives – an independent research phase followed and resulted in the creation of two portraits, combining text and images, of a female pioneer from the natural sciences or medicine by each of the students.
The internship culminated in six fascinating posters, which will serve as the basis for the planned exhibition on women in medicine and the natural sciences, opening in October 2027 at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry as part of the university’s anniversary celebrations.
Details of the event starting in October 2027 can be found here [German only].
