Institute

The Institute of Pathology at Philipps University Marburg, located at the University Hospital Marburg, is a center for diagnostic precision and innovative research in the field of tumor pathology. We combine cutting-edge histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular diagnostics with internationally recognized excellence in translational (patient-oriented) research.
Since 2022, our institute has been accredited according to DIN EN ISO 17020 – a seal of quality representing the highest standards in pathological diagnostics. Our diagnostic spectrum ranges from classical tissue diagnostics to advanced molecular pathology techniques. These include, among others, the detection of therapy-relevant genetic variants and the assessment of complex biomarkers such as tumor mutational burden (TMB) and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD).
As an active member of the German Network for Personalized Medicine (DNPM), our Center for Personalized Medicine (ZPM) makes a significant contribution to the development and implementation of individualized cancer therapies.
A particular focus of our scientific work lies in the identification and validation of predictive biomarkers to forecast therapy response in malignant tumors. Currently, we are concentrating especially on the molecular characterization of breast, gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and ovarian cancers.
Our mission is to open new avenues in personalized medicine through the close integration of diagnostics and research – always for the benefit of our patients.
