Career Paths in Cultural Management

Cultural and Event Management, International Project Management, Company Culture, Science Management

Creating culture, making culture visible, tangible, experiential, and shareable is hard, complex work that often involves a mix of management and administrative methods. It involves equipment and infrastructure, income and subsidies, statutes and guidelines, as well as conceptualization, planning, and evaluation. Possible approaches range from small cultural initiatives to governmental cultural offices (“specialist cultural services”), cultural support institutions, and the Ministry of Culture. The perspective of the cultural studies scholars who are the focus here is not so much how to run a cultural institution most successfully, but how to best bring out the cultural diversity of a city, region, or country. Previous commercial training, a minor in business administration, an additional qualification in project management, or a well-placed, long-term internship in cultural administration pave the way to professional success.
