The objective of the Prehistory / Geoarchaeology Master's program is to acquire in-depth knowledge in a variety of fields of prehistorical archeology, as well as scientific methods and discipline-specific working methods. The early portions of human history are studied during this program, primarily based on material relics.  The field of work of prehistorical archeology includes eras and spaces whose history is primarily developed by archaeological finds.

Major topics

Including the Master thesis, a total of six modules must be completed in the Prehistory / Geoarchaeology program, of which modules 3 to 5 are thematically aligned training units. Of these, students can complete two modules of their choice.

The following modules are offered:

  • Study focus I: Prehistoric economical and social structures
  • Study focus II: Prehistoric settlement
  • Study focus III: Ritual and religion in prehistoric times

Objectives

The Master program is aligned with the professional prospects of a changing labor market.  It enables a career in research institutes, museums, universities, and in the preservation of historical monuments, and also opens up access to new professional fields (journalism, tourism, cultural administration and management, publishing, private archeology, etc.).
