The Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie / Social and Cultural Anthropology master's program will qualify you to empirically document, analyze and understand cultural and social features and contexts of (non-)European cultures.
The Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie / Social and Cultural Anthropology master's program has a research-oriented profile that especially prioritizes independent scientific work.

Major topics

Regional specializations in Latin America (Amazonia) and thematic major topics in the field of Conflict Anthropology, the Anthropology of Nature and Visual and Material Culture are possible.

The program also offers you a high level of interdisciplinarity and a strong present-day relevance through excellent collaboration with other research institutions of the university, such as the centers for conflict research, gender studies or interdisciplinary research of religion. Thanks to a wide selection of secondary subjects (e.g. Psychology, Geography, International Development Studies, Legal Studies, Peace and Conflict Research, Sociology, Indology/Tibetology, Gender Studies) and the program's great flexibility, you can design your program according to your own individual interests.

  Required university degree	We require proof of completion of a relevant Bachelor's degree in the field of cultural and social sciences or a comparable domestic or foreign university degree that qualifies students for a profession. The modules are considered relevant if they have been completed in the fields of ethnology, social and cultural anthropology, ethnology, empirical cultural studies or another discipline related to cultural research or empirical qualitative or ethnographic social research with a total of at least 48 credit points (CP). Students with a relevant minor partial degree programme with at least 48 CP are considered to have completed a relevant degree programme
  Certifications of program-specific knowledge and skills to be submitted prior to admission	German skills: DSH 2 Other language skills: Two (usually modern) foreign languages. The following must be proven a foreign language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (alternatively: knowledge of Latin or Ancient Greek at the Latinum or Graecum level, to be proven e.g. by the school-leaving certificate) as well as another foreign language at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  Admission Mode	Direct admission is granted with complete fulfillment of the admission requirements
