Overseas - Semester exchange from partner universities worldwide
Is your home university a partner university of Marburg University (bilateral exchange)? Or are you interested in an exchange as part of the Hessen-Wisconsin, Hessen-Massachusetts, Hessen-Queensland, or another cooperation (ISEP, Fulbright)?
Application
Then the application process is as follows:
- You apply to your home university or the responsible partner organization.
- If your application is successful, your home university or cooperation partner will nominate you to us.
- After we have received your nomination, you will receive further information by email about the application process and the preparation of your stay with us, along with a link to our application form on the Mobility-Online platform.
- You will receive a letter of acceptance, which you can use for the visa application for your stay, if necessary.
Application deadline
- for a summer semester: January 10
- for a winter semester: July 10
Please note that these dates are deadlines, i.e., you must have entered all the required data and uploaded the required documents into the application portal by these dates.
As an exchange student, you can take advantage of the following offers:
- We can reserve a dormitory room for you in one of Studierendenwerk’s halls of residence.
- The international student orientation helps you get started in Marburg and offers an introduction to student life at our university.
- The language center offers a 4-week intensive German language course before the start of the semester to prepare you for stay and language courses during the semester to support you during your time here.
- Once you have paid the semester contribution (exchange students pay a reduced amount) and provided proof of adequate health insurance for enrollment, you will receive access to university services and a semester ticket for public transportation.
- As an exchange student, you can choose courses from your respective subject at your department and from the mix offer.
- After your stay your can receive a Transcript of Records showing your academic achievements during your stay, which you can use for credit transfer at your home university.

Semester dates for Overseas exchange students
Winter semester
• Semester begins October 1 and ends March 31
• Early September: International student orientation for participants in the intensive German language course and start of the language course
• Early October: International student orientation for students who are not participating in the language course
• Mid-October to mid/end of February: Lecture period and exam period
• End of February to mid-April: Lecture-free period
Summer semester
• Semester begins April 1 and ends September 30
• Early March: Start of the international student orientation for participants in the language course and start of the language course
• Early April: Start of the international student orientation for students who are not participating in the language course
• Mid-April to mid/end of July: Lecture and exam period
• End of July to mid-October: Lecture-free period
