Peace, justice, and inclusivity are the core ideals of EUPeace, and they are the themes at the heart of the European Track as well. The European Track is our brand-new certificate for students enrolled at EUPeace universities

Whatever your course of study, and whatever career plans you have in mind, our goal is to equip you to help build a democratic, just, and peaceful Europe — and world — that's fit for the 21st century.

What is the European Track?

A certificate that allows you to:

  • choose from a diverse and interdisciplinary range of courses offered across our Alliance of nine universities — whether in person or in virtual or hybrid format;
  • study abroad at one of our partner universities — whether for a semester or a year abroad, or for a short-term “Blended Intensive Programme” (BIP);
  • earn up to three outcome-specific certificates or the combined 18 ECTS Level 3 certificate recognizing the knowledge and skills you acquire!

International and intercultural mobility sits at the very heart of the European Track: we want to encourage you to look beyond your country's borders and explore different ways of seeing, thinking, and learning. The European Track is your chance to do that as it allows you to strategically combine mobility opportunities throughout the EUPeace alliance!

Thematically, the European Track is divided into seven areas. Click on the photo to learn about these thematic areas. There is no set combination of courses that you have to choose in order to complete any of the three levels.

Thematic Areas

Area 1 offers language courses or courses in intercultural communication.

Areas 2-4 are orientated towards the social sciences and the arts and humanities.

Areas 5-7 will draw on the natural, environmental, biomedical sciences, and branches of engineering.

OUTGOING: If you are a student at Marburg University, find more information about how to participate in the European Track on our MarSkills site for outgoing students (coming soon).

INCOMING: If you are an international student interested in participating in the European Track at Marburg University, carefully read the information below.

  • How does it work?

The Track comprises three levels, each of which consists of 6 ECTS points.

After completion of a European Track course, the ECTS points assigned to that course count towards your Track.

After 6 points, you are eligible for the Level 1 certificate; after 12 points, Level 2; and after 18 points, Level 3!

At Level 1, you will be able to select and complete courses offered as part of our Virtual European Exchange Programme (VEEP): our tailor-made Alliance-wide program for virtual and hybrid teaching and learning. But you can go abroad for Level 1 as well! This is entirely up to you.

Go abroad for Level 2 and Level 3! We will be encouraging you to make the most of the wonderful opportunities provided by Erasmus+ programs to study at an EUPeace university and complete some in-person European Track courses while you are there.

You will want (and probably need) to complete other courses and modules while you are abroad. Your local ECTS officers and academic advisors can show you how to make the European Track part of your personal study program and schedule.

  • Where can I find the courses?

    All European Track offers
All European Track courses are gathered in a PDF course list on the central European Track website. Look through the EUPeace Alliance's large offer and find a course that suits your interests best. These course lists are valid for the coming academic year – 2025-26 – only. Please be sure of the semester in which your chosen course will be offered; and please remember that every course in these lists has a limited number of places, even if the precise number of places is not specified. You should therefore make sure you sign up for the courses you wish to attend in good time.

    Marburg's European Track offers
To find European Track courses offered by Marburg University, check our course catalog after 1 August (European Track section). You can also find the Marburg offers in the PDF on the European Track website. Please note: The Marburg offers within the PDF course list consist of modules, not classes. Modules are units you need to complete fully to gain ECTS and they often contain one or two classes and a form of assessment (e.g. a term paper or a written/oral exam). Once the Marburg course catalog is published (on 1 August), you will find detailed information on the classes there.

For your physical mobility, you will most likely need to complete a Learning Agreement. We recommend that you consult both your ECTS coordinators at your home university and in Marburg.

For your virtual mobility, Marburg University does not require you to complete a Learning Agreement if you participate in the our virtual European Track offers. We highly recommend, however, that you prepare an optional Learning Agreement in consultation with the respective recognition staff.

  • How do I register for the European Track at Marburg University?

The European Track is launching in its pilot phase in the fall/winter semester of 2025-26. Whether European Track courses start in September or October will depend on the semester dates of the different EUPeace universities.

At Marburg University, the winter semester starts on 13 October 2025

If you are considering taking a European Track course at Marburg University, you should first closely familiarize yourself with the procedures for following the European Track at your home university. Depending on whether you want to take virtual, hybrid or in-person European Track courses, your registration process might vary.

Virtual courses: If you want to kick-off your European Track path at Marburg University virtually, you will register for Marburg University's MO:VE program, Marburgs technical vehicle to administer virtual student mobilities. Once you've registered for the program, you can choose from a variety of online European Track courses offered at Marburg University.

In-person courses: If you're enrolled at another EUPeace institution and want to take European Track courses during your mobility at Marburg University, you will most likely join Marburg as an Erasmus+ student on a physical mobility. All students coming to Marburg from EUPeace Alliance partners are automatically eligible to take European Track courses during their stay. Please note: To participate in the European Track offers during a physical Erasmus+ mobility, you need to be nominated by your home institution.

You may however also join Marburg University on the Freemover Program

  • How do I get credit for the European Track courses I complete at Marburg University?

Upon completion of your course work in Marburg you will receive a Transcript of Records (ToR) for succesfully completed physical and virtual courses. The recognition as well as the issuance of the European Track certificate is organized at your home institution.

  • How and when do I get my European Track certificate at my home university?

Once you’ve returned from your study abroad, please reach out to your points of contact for the European Track or study abroad to check your transcript(s). They will check the records from your period(s) abroad and take care of credit recognition and certificate issuance.

The European Track holds a vast variety of combinatory possibilities to design a track that suits your interests best. The two examples below showcase some of its potential versatility.

In example 1, the European Track allows you to combine several international credit experiences. You have now gained competence in several of the thematic areas, have most likely met great new people and grown your intercultural competence beyond what traditional mobility opportunitiy would have allowed.

In example 2, you've been able to earn international credit experience without having to fully commit to the entire 18 ECTS Track quite yet.

Example 1

You are a student enrolled at the Univeristy of West Bohemia in Pilsen and

1) virtually study the European Track Level 1 at Justus Liebig University in Giessen via the EUPeace VEEP program.

2) For the physical Erasmus+ mobility, you decide to join Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid for one semester and take courses towards the Level 2 Track certification.

3) After the mobility is completed, you join a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) organized by your home university in collaboration with the Universities of Calabria and Marburg to complete the Track Level 3.

Example 2

You are a student at Marburg University and discover VEEP.

1) For your Level 1, you take a virtual course at the University of Mostar.

2) Because you are not sure when and in which format you will complete Level 2 and 3, you request the 6 ECTS certificate. For the future, you consider an Erasmus+ mobility at one of the EUPeace Alliance partner institutions.
