Promotion in Iranistik

Eine Promotion im Fach Iranistik ist im Rahmen der Promotionsordnung des Fachbereichs 10 "Fremdsprachliche Philologien" möglich, die zur Verleihung des Grades einer Doktorin / eines Doktors der Philosophie (Dr. phil) führt.

Die persönliche Beratung und Betreuung, die für eine Promotion in Deutschland kennzeichnend ist, wird auch weiterhin von zentraler Bedeutung sein. Gute Deutschkenntnisse sind für den wissenschaftlichen Austausch und die akademische Diskussion unabdingbar, auch wenn grundsätzlich die Möglichkeit besteht, die Dissertation in einer anderen Sprache (z.B. Englisch) zu verfassen.

Im Gegensatz zu Iran und anderen Ländern haben wir kein verpflichtendes Promotionsprogramm mit zu belegenden Kurseinheiten (course-work). Die Zulassung erfolgt daher auch nicht über eine zentrale Auswahlkommission. Sollten Sie an einer Promotion in Marburg Interesse haben, sollten Sie schon sehr konkrete Themenvorstellungen haben, im Idealfall bereits ein ausgearbeitetes Exposé.

PhD in Iranian Studies

We offer the opportunity to acquire the degree of a Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil) in the field of Iranian Studies as outlined in the PhD regulations set by the Faculty for Foreign Languages and Literatures.

However, the personal supervision and guidance that hitherto characterised the process of writing a doctoral thesis in Germany will continue to be of major importance. We regard a good working knowledge of German as indispensable for fruitful academic discussion and interdisciplinary exchange of ideas, although it is in principle possible to submit a thesis in another language (i.e. English). In contrast to the situation in Iran and some other countries, we do not have a clearly defined PhD program with obligatory course-work. Consequently, admission is handled on an individual basis and not through a central commission. There are no tuition fees on the PhD level. In case you are interested to pursue a doctoral degree at the Philipps-Universität Marburg you should already have very concrete ideas of possible research topics, ideally already with a written proposal.
