Research profile of the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology:
The department’s research foci are
(1) processes of socio-cultural transformation, with a special emphasis on the dimensions of conflict and the environment.
(2) issues of hybridization, creolization, and transculturation as an outcome of cultural and religious dynamics, with a special emphasis on postcolonial indigeneity/ indigenous modernity
The regional focus is on Latin America, in particular the Amazon region, the Caribbean, and Mexico.
