Program
The Graduate Center for Humanities and Social Sciences offers a continued training and education program that is tailored to the needs of doctoral candidates. The program includes training on core competences and transferable skills, which have become an indispensable addition to specialized knowledge in the education and everyday working life of doctoral candidates, scholars, and scientists. Participation in our courses and workshops is open primarily to members of the Graduate Centers. Advisory members are also cordially invited to participate in our program. Non-members can generally participate (the registration fee is higher) as long as spaces are still available. Please note: Doctoral candidates and staff of Philipps-Universität do not automatically pay the internal course fee. To get the reduced rate, you will need to apply for (free) membership to the Graduate Center.
Our workshops and courses are usually one to two days long and frequently take place toward the end of the week so as to minimize conflicting with participants' other obligations. We request that you pay special attention to the course/workshop's content and target group so that you select courses that best meet your needs. We would especially like to call your attention to our Writing Workshop for doctoral candidates of the humanities and social sciences, which is offered in cooperation with the Language Center of Philipps-Universität. Please note: Courses with university-level didactic components can be applied toward the "Kompetenz für professionelle Hochschullehre" certificate from the Hochschuldidaktisches Netzwerk Mittelhessen (HDM). If you are interested in obtaining such credit, please contact the HDM office manager at Philipps-Universität Marburg (Rieke Bernard) in advance.
The Graduate Center for Humanities and Social Sciences program is part of the full program of the MArburg University Research Academy (MARA), in which the transferable skills courses of the Graduate Center of Life and Natural Sciences and the Academic Career Development Center for postdocs and the continued training and education program in teaching of the Hochschuldidaktisches Netzwerk Mittelhessen are integrated. In addition to these MARA-exclusive courses, we would also like to draw your attention to the workshops offered by the Hochschulrechenzentrum and the training offered by the main University library at Philipps-Universität Marburg.
