01.10.2020 Kaing Guek Eav alias "Duch" died

Kaing Guek Eav alias "Duch", who was convicted of crimes against humanity, died in prison on 02.09.2020.

He was the head of the Khmer Rouge prison S-21 in Pnom Penh from 1976 to 1979 and was responsible for the death of at least 14.000 people there.

In 2008 he was the first defendant of the "Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia" and was sentenced by them in 2012 to life imprisonment.
