Biographical Note:

Dr. Evgeniya Prusskaya is a research fellow at the CNMS. She is the author of The French Campaign in Egypt (1798–1801): Facing the ‘Other’, a monograph that explores the cultural encounters and conflicts that arose during the French occupation of Egypt. 

Her current research project deals with the transimperial history of Muslim communities under Tsarist rule in the nineteenth-century southern Caucasus and a comparative study of the imperial policies toward Islam of the French Empire in Algeria and the Russian Empire in the Caucasus.

She has previously worked at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Ilia State University, Tbilisi, Georgia, and in the past at the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She was a visiting researcher at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (France), the Fondation Napoléon (France), and at the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, Cardiff University (the UK).
